With the lull in our domestic season now is probably as good a time as any to look back at some of the goals the Celtic have scored this season.

C’mon the Hoops!

The Greek enigma has done it again.

Sammy netted his second penalty in as many games to help the Hoops record a 2-1 win against MLS side Seattle Sounders.

Once again manager Neil Lennon decided to shuffle his side around with youngster Dominic Cervi returning in goal, Paul Caddis, Jos Hoiveld and Milan Musan back in defence and Cilian Sheridan getting his first run out of the tour.

The game provided Celtic with a decent test and took a turn in our favour after 29 minutes when the home keeper Boss Scott was red carded for taking Sammy out even though the big man found the net during the challenge!

Sammy dusted himself down and blasted the penalty high to his left to give the Bhoys a 1-0 lead.

The second half started with the home side on the ascendancy but nothing came of their territorial advantage, and it was Celtic who increased their lead on 65 minutes.

Paddy McCourt took a cut back from Milan Musan to slide the ball past new keeper Jennings and make the score Seattle Sounders 0 Celtic 2.

If the Bhoys thought the game was over as a contest, then the Americans had different ideas. Just two minutes later substitute Estrada fired a cracker opast the unsighted Cervi to give the home side a glimmer of hope.

But in all fairness to Lenny’s men Celtic could well have extended the lead before the game finished with Paddy hitting the post late on.

Another good run out and more game time for the players, and it’s always nice to get a win under our belts, plus a crowd of over 45,000 turned up to see the Hoops.

Not bad going.

On to Boston……

What it is with Celtic? We had twenty-seven shots at St Johnstone’s goal yesterday and scored with three of the hardest!

MAF’s first strike was stunning, Sammy’s volley was sublime and Paddy McCourt’s dribble and shot was easily a contender for goal of the season.(you can see what it means to Paddy below)

I said before the game that a good result could turn our season around and maybe it will. Of course we have to continue this kind of form against Hibs on Wednesday for there to be real hope of a comeback.

With players returning to training this week Tony just might have a couple of selection headaches ahead of the midweek fixture.

No doubt Mogga will deal with them, just as he dealt with David Tanner after the game, as he let the media know on Sky Sports what he thinks of their credentials for picking a player.

Nice one Tony.

Paddy Shows What It Means To Play For Celtic!

Excuse me for being a  bit paranoid here but if any other team had gone to Germany and drew with a high-flying Bundesliga side such as Hamburg then the media would have been full of praise for the result.

Unfortunately for us, the rampaging Hun mob have taken all the headlines since Wednesday.

So now it’s time to concentrate on the football again…

Celtic go to Falkirk this lunchtime knowing a win will take us four points clear at the top of the SPL.

Although these things rarely happen, a similar performance to the one in September in the Co-Op Cup will do nicely.

On that occasion Paddy McCourt stole the show with a superb solo goal in Celtic’s 4-0 win. See for yourself>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

P.S. Great to see the Crazy Gang last night enjoying a fantastic Wolfe Tones gig at the Barrowland!

The two goals scored in an exciting first half by Chris Killen and big Sammy were enough to make Celtic the winners of the inaugural Wembley Cup.

It was almost three as Paddy McCourt weaved his way through the Spurs defence only for his shot to drift wide of the mark.

Although Spurs did have a couple of late chances, it was always going to be Celtic’s day after Killen put the Hoops in front.

What must have pleased Mogga as much as anything was the fact that his starting eleven, with the exception of Glenn Loovens, was mostly second choice players.

The new man has brought a fresh impetus to the play and the players are responding the best way possible, by scoring goals, winning matches and keeping the door shut at the back. (Four games without conceding a goal)

There also seems to be a new maturity about the squad. Something that was evident when Aiden McGeady decided to choose his words carefully about last seasons bust-up with WGS.

It would have easy for the Bhoy to have a real go at his former gaffer but he didn’t and should be commended for that. Nice one Aiden.

Hail! Hail!

As we stated yesterday, the silence from the media about our reserves magnificent eighth title in a row was deafening!

Where was the FIVE page spread? Where were the banners proclaiming our victory?

No where to be seen. All they could muster was a page about Paddy McCourt and Simon Ferry. And if any of you watch Celtic TV you’d already know about both Paddy and Simon.

But then again…we’re paranoid!

Now, it gets worse. The Rankers Youth lost to Hibs in last night’s cup final and Hampden. So, instead of giving the youngsters from the East a bit of press, they hide their achievement in a corner, and splash the rest of the paper with photos (pass the sick bag) of Boydichenko.

His snarling coupon is plastered over TWO pages, crowing about his 100 goals. Of course it fails to mention that 19 of those goals were penalties and that ONE was against the Hoops! (feckin’ useless!)

Anyway, on to this weekend game. The Sheepherders are apparently going to ‘get in our faces’ and stop us playing. Well, we’ll soon see if our wee trip to Spain has galvanised the Bhoys for the run-in.

It will be interesting to hear Tango and Sash when we beat them.

So often in recent weeks we’ve failed in the Sunday match after SS took points the previous day. Until today we’ve had a few points cushion to keep us in front.

Not now.

Lying is second place is not where we want to be, so today the players who have failed over the last six weeks must stand up and be counted.

Early season form has now been forgotten.

It’s a new start for everyone.In fact we might find a ‘new’ face or two coming into the squad to ‘freshen’ things up, Paddy McCourt springs to mind.

So get your heads down, keep a clean sheet and get back to the top of the league, where the Champions belong!

P.S. Skippy, stop moaning, concentrate and show the Faithful that you’re not a one season wonder.
