Celtic Learn How To See Games Out…
Posted by: | CommentsLearning Process Paying Dividends!
When Celtic left the field at half-time 2-0 up thanks to goals from Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama, and looking as though they would stroll the game, they left a nagging doubt behind them.
Would they be able to see the game out if Dundee United scored?
The reason for the doubt stems from last seasons mid term blip where we shipped points at home in games against Killie, Caley and United, all from winning positions.
Ultimately, those lost points contributed to our eventual failure to win the title.
So, would there be a repeat, because Rankin’s goal five minutes into the second half could have seen the Bhoys wobble and drop valuable points?
Well, like Lenny, the team this season are a lot more mature and confident in the way they play. Sure we should have gone on and scored a third but at the end of the day the three points are all that matter.
Learning to see games out is a big part of title winning and it’s something we’re learning to do quite well….
The Heid Resists Boot At Celtic!
Posted by: | CommentsDespite Media Headlines…..
Trust the media? Well do you? Naw me neither. Insteed of letting a player move on and wish him well at his new club, the media try to conjure up a headline implying that Gary Caldwell let because of Tony Mowbray.
When you actually read the comment from The Heid, he just says that some managers make you feel wanted and other don’t. He also said that during his contract negotiations his ‘side’ wanted one thing and the club offered something else.
No hard feelings, that’s the way it goes sometimes. Caldwell also said that he was willing to stay until the end of the season to try and help the Hoops regain the SPL title. Hardly the actions of a bitter man?
Yet the headline on the Sky Sports website read; “Caldwell-Mowbray Prompted Exit” suggesting that Mogga had chased the player out the club!
Seems to me the media are hellbent on stirring trouble and making an issue out of nothing……
No change there then!
Barry Transfer Leaves Faithful Split…..
Posted by: | CommentsCeltic Support Undecided Over Robson Move…
Last week we posted a poll asking YOU the Celtic support if it was a good move for Celtic to let midfield dynamo Barry Robson leave the club.
As Robbo makes his move to join former Hoops boss Gordon Strachan at Middlesbrough, the Faithful are still not sure letting the player go is such a good idea.
At the time of writing 39% want Robson to remain not only a player at Celtic Park but see him as a fixture in the team. While 36% think Tony Mowbray is doing the right thing by cashing in on the 31 year-old while he can.
Meanwhile 25 % are not sure either way.
But it doesn’t really matter what we think, tomorrow Barry Robson will be paraded as a Middlesbrough player. Good luck to him, we can never doubt that he gave 100% every time he pulled on the Hoops.
(I don’t think the departure of Gary Caldwell would have split the support so much!)
Still, good luck to The Heid too!
Robbie Keane Deal A Goer?
Posted by: | CommentsThree Out, One In…..
Although most of the media speculation is centred on the immediate departure to Middlesbrough of Gary Caldwell, Willo Flood and surprisingly Barry Robson, we have it on good authority that the proposed loan deal for Robbie Keane is still on the cards.
Rumour has it that the ‘tab’ for Robbie’s wage package and bonus money will be met by a ‘mysterious’ Irish businessman.
Of course this deal has been doing the rounds for a while now, however there’s no smoke without fire.
Personally, Robbie Keane doesn’t excite me but I can understand that the Premiership player coming in to Paradise would generate great interest among the Faithful.
I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see……..
Will WGS Come Back For Gary And Scott?
Posted by: | CommentsStrachan In Hunt For New Players
Now that Gordon Strachan has officially been named as the new Middlesbrough manager, and we wish him well, the first thing on his mind will be to strengthen the weakened Championship side.
That means bring in Championship quality players….and we have a few of them.
The obvious target would be contract rebel and ‘fans favourite’ (see our poll) Gary Caldwell. WGS previously tied Gary up on a freedom of contract deal when he brought the player to Celtic Park from Hibs.
Something similar might be of interest to both Celtic and Boro, although Tony might prefer to take the £50 in January for Caldwell!
Then there’s Skoosh.
We all know that Broonie is suffering from a recurring injury problem, one that has more than hampered his performances but again Celtic would be willing to offload the £4.4m player and his wages if we can at least recoup the money spent on him.
Both players did a turn for us and wee Ghord last season, so it could well be in everybody’s interest for the pair to leave and Celtic free up some dough and bring in the new faces that Tony craves for.
Lets be honest Boro would be getting two internationals and Mogga would be rid of part of the unrest in the dressing room.
